Australia's Great Barrier Reef 2001

In January 2001, Martin began a semester abroad, studying at Uni-Sydney in Australia.  Near the end of that semester, in mid-May 2001, We (Chad, Barbara, Matthew) joined him for a few days travel to the Great Barrier reef, and then Barbara and Chad went onward to Papua New Guinea.

Martin gamely went through his studies although he had some hip problems at the time,  I don't think he has danced on tables with his Aussie buddies at the bar, or under any circumstances, since then...

Here are his Uni-Sydney digs and a glimmer at his lifestyle while there...

So we all took advantage of this visit to do some touring of Sydney.  The photo below was of the Bridge Tour high up on the Sydney Harbor bridge.  (Writing this in 2020, I don't think they do this tour any more....)

We then flew to Cairns and from there transferred to Port Douglass where we stayed at the Sheraton Mirage.  The guys played golf, I took a rainforest tour, and we got ready for the trip to the Great Barrier Reef!

And to top off this family trip, a great photo taken in the lush vegetation of the hotel grounds!

Next stop for the boys was Sydney to enjoy a little brother time before Martin had final exams.  Chad and Barbara flew on Air Nuigini from Cairns to Port Moresby for the adventure in Papua New Guinea.
